About

THE ABU BEKR

RAT PATROL

In October of 1977 Tom Finksdale and Bob Hostad went to the Honda Dealership in Sioux City and eyed a four wheeled dune buggy called an "Odyssey" and almost immediately, the two had the idea of a four wheeled unit that could do street maneuvers. In 1978, They got their bylaws excepted and officially became the "Rat Patrol."Finks dale" became the first Captain with Hostad as ]First lieutenant. Since that time, the Rat Patrol has consistently placed First in their class in competitions at Midwest and Central States Shrine Conventions. They have also done well in individual obstacle coarse competitions. Everywhere the Rat Patrol performs, they have a great following. Crowds along parade routes cheer and applaud as the Rat Patrol executes their procession parade maneuvers at top speeds (sometimes with little room) without missing a beat. The monthly meetings are on the first Friday of the month October through April. Practices are April Through September.

The slogan of the Rat Patrol is:

"First You Hear Us,
Then You See Us,

Then You Never Forget Us."

We are extremely proud to be award winning dune buggy unit of the Abu Bekr Shrine located in Sioux City, IA.
